Issue #1 — “Start Where You Are”

Every movement begins with a voice.
That voice started small from a quiet belief that there was more to life than what was visible around me.
Raised without a father in the home, but guided by a strong mother and three sisters who showed what resilience, love, and strength look like, that belief took root early. The belief in standing tall even when the world tries to make you small.
I was the kid labeled as trouble, kicked out of school in second grade, expected to fail before ever having a chance to rise.
But here’s what I learned: you are never defined by where you start.
From Struggle to Strength
That same “bad kid” grew into a father, a principal, an international educator, and a world traveler who’s explored more than 50 countries across six continents.
This was not because every answer was known, but because of a choice to trust the voice within. The voice that spoke life when doubt tried to silence it. The voice that reminded me I could rise higher, believe deeper, and keep showing up no matter the odds.
That’s the power behind Champion’s Voice. The voice that lives in all of us.
My mission is to help you hear it, trust it, and use it to build the life you were created to live.
That same belief is what I want for every parent, every student, and every educator who reads this.
What This Space Is About
This newsletter, The Legacy Lounge, is about more than education, it’s about empowerment.
It’s about helping families build stronger homes, helping parents guide their children beyond sports and test scores, and helping kids discover the inner voice that says, “I can.”
Each week, I’ll share reflections and lessons from my journey with stories from classrooms across the world, from Vietnam to Florida, from late nights as a father to early mornings as a teacher and principal.
My goal is simple:
to give you tools, wisdom, and perspective you can use to grow right where you are.
Because success doesn’t begin in a classroom or a career, it begins in the conversations we have at home.
It begins when we teach our children that their worth isn’t measured by wins or likes, but by how they treat others, how they show up, and how they believe in themselves.
